Hello Everyone,
Most are probably wondering “WHERE IS MY BREAK!?” and it’s coming I swear, just a couple loose ends.
We worked hard to get a hard demo copy to SPX and we managed to get at least a prototype preview to show at a couple tables, and from what I heard we had a pretty good reception.
Anyways, all that’s left is a few illustrations and some web optimization (as I’d like to have a digital copy available for those who can’t afford a solid copy, that and I think Jeremy would approve of bring our book to the digital world ).
I know Break will be online and ready to purchase before Christmas, so it will be the perfect stocking stuffer this year!
Hopefully in January I’d like to get going on a new book that will be out by next Christmas… maybe call it Mend or something.
Till next time,
Steve (Aka the layout, web admin, prepress guy)

Hello everyone! Covers submissions where actually due yesterday…
So far I only have one submission from the diligent Mr Logan Ganshirt

I personally think it looks great and kind of captures everyone’s current status. Though I’m not against competition.
So if anyone has a cover submission that I missed please let me know so it can be posted. Otherwise I’m declaring Logan the winner.

The first real deadline for pencils and roughs is today! So far we have several very well done submissions posted in the forum and it seems that more are to come.
ALSO…
Some have asked lately if they can still join in and since then a few of the founders have had random chats here and there and I think we have come to the conclusion that we may need to flex this due date because of SDCC and other various tasks that happened the past couple weeks. BUT, I still want to keep today as a deadline to post what ever you can in the submissions section of the Break Forum ( http://www.facebook.com/l/;www.breakanthology.com/forum/ ) as kind of a tally to see how many are still interested in being in the book.
So this deadline I would at the very least see where you’re at. If you have thumbs, post those, if you have only 1 page done, post that, if you have got a doodle post that too, the reason I’m saying this is some folks are running a little behind (myself included due to moving and what not).
I guess what I’m saying is that if you just heard about Break, you can still join in, but this week please register in the forum and add some thumbs or roughs to show you’re vigilantly working to meet our final deadline (09/04).
We still want the book to be released at SPX and to do that I’ll need all the submissions by September 4th so the book can put together and copies printed in time.
Which leads me to another announcement….
It’s time to start working on cover designs.
These can be full color (CMYK) and a square format (7.5×7.5 + .75″ bleed). If we get enough we could look into having multiple covers or we could put it to a vote at the end of this month.
If you have any questions or would like to express your opinion please post something in the forums or leave a comment on the facebook group. I would also like to hear from those who initially had plans to submit a story and would now like to withdraw so the page numbers can be updated and what not.
Anyways, till next time.

That’s right, the first deadline has been demolished. What this means is that the new deadline for submission forms will now be August 4th and there will be no due date for the thumbnails and scripts. (Rough Pencils are still due August 4th).
BUT the forum is online and a submitting artist should still show what they are working on. It allows for input from other artists as well as letting us admins know they’re still planning to submit to the book.
So people although the first deadline isn’t till August 4th it doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t submit thumbnails and scripts, it just means it’s going to be a more lax environment for those who are busy during this time of the year (conventions and such).

Well unfortunately there was some slight problems with the chat room plug in, SO it wasn’t really able to start till about 8:20ish, so the turn out was pretty low.
Either way we talked about a few things, one of them being pushing back the submission form deadline. (Feel free to express your opinion here or in the forum).
You can download the transcript here: Chat_06-28
Anyways… 1 week away from the originally posted deadline! Work Work Work!

Hello everyone, just a reminder that the first deadline is coming up on July 4th.
This means those who want to submit a story to the book need to turn in a submission form ASAP!
This also means you need to have a script or thumbnails worked out to show you’ve started your submission.
To show your work go to the Break Forum and start a topic with your name as the title in the Submissions section.
If you haven’t registered in the forum yet or submited a submission form you will not have access to the submissions section and thus have a hard time being a part of this awesome anthology… SO GITTY UP!
ALSO we will be having a chat session this upcoming Sunday at 8PM (28th) to discuss how everyone is coming along as well as discuss the dedication of the book to Jeremy Wade Mullins.
As always if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, someone is bound to know the answer.

Well we had a decent turn out for the chat and through connection problems and mixed schedules we managed to lock down some details that are vital for the book.
Things we talked about…
Deadlines:
Pitches / Thumbnails / Sketches: DUE JULY 4th
ROUGHES: DUE AUGUST 4th
Final: DUE SEPTEMBER 4th
PUBLIC RELEASE: When; September 26th Where; SPX (Small Press Expo)
ALL DEADLINES MUST BE MET.
Format:
Page size: 7.5″x7.5″ (it’s hip to be square)
Color: CMYK Cover with B&W pages
Binding: Perfect Bound
Content: PG-13 or T for Teens
Printer: LuLu.com
*We would like to add color inserts to each book we sell in person. The inserts would be kind of like baseball cards only it would be the artists on the cards drawn by other artists of the book.
Finances:
Treasurer: Bryan Louie
Distribution: Sales of books will primarily be sold on lulu.com, with profits from the site going to hosting & advertising costs ( this will change if margins increase). Other sales will be done by the artists themselves, in that they will be open to purchase copies at whole sale cost from lulu.com and then be responsible for selling the copies they have purchased, in return they keep the profits from those sales.
Advertising:
The primary source of advertising will be the artist’s and fan’s responsibility. BUT we would like to have someone at as many comic conventions as possible to distribute postcards with info on the book and a reference to this site (this initially will be a shared expense among volunteers). If you would like to submit a post card design please post it to this thread in the forum. Around august when there is a set number of artists and participants we will start with the artist’s playing card campaign.
UPCOMING CONVENTION:
Wizard World Philly: Bryan Louie and Dustin Johnson have volunteered to help distribute post cards.
Finally…
Submissions:
There will be a form on this site that has required fields that need to be filled out by anyone who would like to submit a story or illustration.
Submissions to participate will be open till July 4th after that time only submissions for illustrations (IE “Breakers”) and rare special exceptions will be allowed.
*In rare cases some submissions may be rejected for the final print if we either we have an overwhelming amount of artists OR that the quality of the submission has been deemedun acceptable by a set of peers who have been approved by the administrative staff. Though, we don’t want to discard anyone’s hard work so we will plan to have an “uncensored” online version for artists who don’t make the official printed copy (in this case uncensored doesn’t mean go rated XXX on us, but instead it just means no one’s work will be excluded from this version.).
Sooooo… I think that’s about it for now. We would like to have another online chat in a couple weeks to see where everyone is as well as see how well of a reception we had at Wizard World Philly. Till then we got a lot to do (IE POST CARD SUBMISSIONS!!! DUE on the 14th), and getting started on some scripts and thumbnails for that July 4th deadline.
Later,
BREAK ADMIN STAFF

This site was started for the purpose of creating something awesome among friends and artists. “Break” is an anthology of sequential works focused on the word “break” or break sounding words (ie. “brake”, “broke”, “broken”).
Over the next several months this site will act as a communal area for the creators as well as people interested in their works. Using a blog like format will allow for users to share entries, images, and links with relative ease as well as advertise what we’re doing to the world.
If you’re interested in joining us or would like to hear more information please feel free to send us an e-mail or subscribe to the blog.
