it has been 20 minutes...  *where'd  yeah we should get started  *shrugs prob. got disconnected or something  yeah might as well  first things first lets talk about um stuff  good idea  formats and publisher  what stuff?  lol  BREAK stuff  indeed  are we looking for a publisher?  of course  i think he means b/t lulu/kablam?  well originally Lulu or Kablam  that depends on what sort of stories are we wanting to do  which to go with  lulu/kablam cost money  we need a backer  Lulu is free  to submit  and then we only print out what we need  on demand  or just give people the link to purchase it  plus I think an anthology is going to be a hard sell to get a actual publisher to back.  Here's what I'm thinking on funding this:  Since Lulu is print on demand.  it won't be a hard sell if the artwork is excellent, the stories are excellent..  Basically, anyone with work in the anthology would be able to purchase copies at cost and re-sell them at the decided cover price at whichever event or location they choose.  Say each book costs $7.50 and sells for $13.00. You have to put up the initial $7.50, but you sell it for $13.00, so you get $5.50 profit for each book you sell.)  All the profits in these sales would go the individuals selling the books, as they are the ones investing their money to have copies of the book on hand.  Once you buy the books they are yours and it is your responsibility to sell them; but as the risk is all yours, so is the profit.  I like that idea  guess that works for me then  yah that sounds good  Profits from books sold via the internet site would go towards site maintenance, advertising, and other promotional materials.  This plan allows that there is little chance anyone will be screwed over by the system. Since all of us can afford contribute different sums, I feel that this would be the most fair.  This plan allows that there is little chance anyone will be screwed over by the system. Since all of us can afford contribute different sums, I feel that this would be the most fair.  oops.  I hear by nominate Bryan as Break finance guy  lol  hear hear!  It makes it less complicated than assigning a share for each book and it distributes the labor of distribution more evenly.  aye!  I swear I'm going to throw this pos pc into the ocean  Obviously his system would have to be modified if the anthology takes off, because the distribution will most likely be pulled out of the hands of the individual and and become more focused on internet or store sales. But for now, it would be sufficient.  good deal  yep  sean did you get al that?  I copied that portion to a txt document so it's part of the log now  So should we go with lulu then?  cool.  ok...now what about the book itself  format/size  and submissions  I was talking to Brett about that ealier today  the size?  and I brought up the idea of instead of a standard 6x9 book we go with a 7.5x7.5 book  is that the scad antholgoy size?  it costs the same on lulu  I think 6x9 is the SCAD anthology size  somebody needs to create a template that everyone can use  actually lulu has those availible  but I would create a modified PDF  sweet.  there ya go  as lulu doesn't really provide a nice gutter size  so size / format? what do you guys want?  though that's good too  yeah  ok then  prob. easier to remember actually  dd we decide that this would be b/w only or could it have color?  because the rough to finished, while possible, is a bit of a crunch  It's definitely easy to remember.  actually we didn't, but color $$ more?  I think b/w only as it cuts the price a lot  yeah  and i'm all for keeping this bugger down $$  i figured  color would cost almost $15 more  but we would have a color cover  damn  and im all for not coloring cuz it takes time  another idea is if we want color we could do color inserts  yeah  like the cover/breaks throughout  in color  eeehhh wouldnt that be just as expensive?  for the cover? or the stuff w/in?  I don't think lulu allows a mix inside  but we could print out post cards and such to stick in the books we sell  ah yeah. that'd be easier if we were actually perfect binding ourselvs  Are you gonna need people to help divvie up some of the particulars for the book?  covers, inserts, whatever...  or do you have that stuff already set up?  like who does what?  well what lulu would do is print the cover in color, do the perffect binding for us, with b/w pages  yeah  then we would stick the color pages / cards in ourselfs  we kinda sorta have that worked out  you got something you wanna do?  more the merrier  and easier on everyone  too bad this was thought up recently. i could hand out flyers at mocca for this anthology :\  I wouldn't mind adding some of the extra stuff, listening you talk about the postcards and such.  actually Wizard world Philly is coming up that Bryan is going to goto, we need to get him some postcards to pass out  Dustin  philly  I'd also like to see about us getting a booth or passing around postcards at megacon and Chicago wizard world too  oh right  When are those coming up?  Yeah, I'll be there  Josh in in that area as well  oh noice  so what's the projected release date of it?  I'll be going to SPX in september.  what date is spx on?  Yeah that's when and where we want to release it  september 26-28th  is at SPX  good deal  oh  so we need postcards  yep  postard or business cards  right now we need them with the site's info on it  yeah, and a badass image  now does lulu print stuff out that fast?  indeed  images  the deadline for the finals is the fourth of that month, right?  we probably wouldn't do the postcards with lulu  though in the past for lulu to print a book it takes about 2 weeks  okay  maybe less if rushed  right  So when's the nxt con?  and if I get all the stuff by the LATEST september 5th I could have the book together by the 8th or 9th and submitted for printing  philly?  philly in 2 weeks  Philly is in a couple weeks  so we need postcards before then  yep  peferably by the end of next week  one or a few diff. designs?  so would these be teaser postcards?  yeah  hmmm, we could make sure that anybody who does go to SPX has a little advert for the Break anthology booth at their respective booths and vice versa.  image w/ site info?  we need to figure out how to pay for them hehe  with the site and maybe a design or something  Matt, definitly  I don't know if we want to make a uniform thing or just to each his own.  maybe a short description on theme as well  Maybe bryan (treasurer) set up a pay pal?  and we all give 5 bucks?  yeah  how much is a booth at spx?  150  or is it 125  in that range  either way I think Pranas allready has a booth and Brett said he may be in for sharing  did brett talk to him about doing something for break yet?  or if we could even avoid buying a booth and just have little setups with everyone we know  I think so  that'd be better  the more spread out the better  yup  PEOPLE  people people people  yes?  my goal is for rainwaters 3rd cousin to have a copy  and then we just have the same postcard advertising pointing people to the lulu site to buy the books as well as to the booths selling the books  noice  that's an ambitious goal.  I don't even know that guy.  who's rainwaters 3rd cousin?  exacly  lol  i'm saying  ah hehe ok  people we don't know buying it  I'm so slow  hahah  that would be awesome  Hmmm... have you talked about having a little link widget thing for everybody's websites?  i got a really nice connection i could drop this idea to. that could get us the attention of some higher-ups  so the big thing is post card distribution... as we can buy like hundreds for only like what... $20 bux?  let me check some printers real quick  good deal  and sean def. holla at him about it  post about it on your blogs too  right  eveyrone actually  Yeah we go through visit 100 cards for 18.74  not bad at all  *vista  will do. she's really sensitiver about being used as networking only so the quality has tobe praiseworthy  mos def  wait till we get the teasers ready  cards rather  how many diff. ones?  I say we push to get some post card ideas done by next Saturday and post them in the forum  hmm instead of postcards what about say artist's trading cards?  and then we'll choose from those which to get printed  hey!  oh hey I like that  though I think those would be cooler to put in the books themselves  since the person purchasing the copies are responsible for selling them, have their personal card in the book  yeah for our about artist things?  yeah that too  we dont' want to single out one artist for the promo stuff, (unless they're a big name)  so next sat. post card ideas up  yeah another good thing with the post cards is I can take them and reuse them on the site  for the banner and such  yup  ah damn what's the size of a pcard?  should they be like . . . superhero style? like those marvel masterpieces?  heh I just realized my friend Dave just got a job at Pixar... one they're printed I'll send him a few copies to pass around the studio  5x7?  oh gd  yeah def.  (5.47" x 4.21")  oh wow way off lol, thnx  Ahoy  howdee  hello  welcome Brett  ho dis is  OH  BRETT  I am now talking, apparently  hey  yo  Who's loosey  Sean  and goosey, apparently  sean williams  goosey's my parasite twin  what about having different artist draw each other's cards?  That's a cool idea.  I'm up for that  I'd rather that, personally.  I dunno. then again, it wouldn't convey that artist's style. especially since we're not established artists. ity might confuse people * Welcome Steve, now talking.  it'd be my first printed content that isn't lame/mascot stuff...  Yeah, I can't break with that reasoning.  arg  what did I miss?  you too  lol  my wireless went out  just talking about drawing our own cards  maybe there's some sort of planetary alignment. we're all having connection issues tonight  and this book being most of our real "intro" into peoples bookshelves  i'm gonna go ahead and go,  I'll get that about page up tomorrow morn though,  okeydoke, g'night.  ok sounds good... no hurry but by the end of the weekend is all good  g'bye!  ciao  later  night  So tasks at hand for people  Joe konws his  I know I have to get the submission forum together  so goals by next week: everyone needs to submit a card profile of themselves?  everyone needs to work on cards  well I would say not so much a card of themselves  Hmmm. quick query.  but a quick pitch postcard for the site / anthology to hand out at Philly  if by chance we have a writer friend helping in our submission, should we include those or leave that to our own discretion?  As long as the story is completed and looks awesome the number of people working on it doesn't matter  I was talking more in respect for the artist's cards.  hmm maybe the card's should be attached to the story not the artist per se, just in case there's a write/inker/etc  ah *shrug* who ever we get cards off the better, but the problem I have with starting on the cards now is that we don't know who all will submit to the book yet  right  okay.  and I think the artist card idea should wait till at least mid August  when will the deadline for getting people comitted will be?  July 4th  when pitches are due  if they have a pitch by then they can submit I would thinkg  alright. tho we still need to have a clear set of guidelines down 2 weeks prior to 7/4  the pitch will be a basic outline, i guess?  i believe so  Totally the pdf with the page template will be up this weekend  cool  should we require some thumbs w/ the pitch?  basic outline with some thumbnails, maybe some sketches of characters and stuff  well...character designs i dont think are necessary. depending on the story  yeah just stuff to show you're thinking  for right now, i would want to see that they know how to write an interesting story and how to manage telling it in a square composition  keep in mind it's just a squair page... you don't have to use the entire page if you don't want to  right.  in this case gotta think outside yet still with in the box  So, I'm guessing There'll be a big ol' update informing everybody what was discussed tonight?  yep yep  awesome.  the guidelines section the the page will be filled out  one quick question: double splash pages: be they forbidden?  a submissionw form will be added  splash pages should probably be forbidden  since we don't have that much control over the printer  i dunno. there should be a limit on splash pages but they shouldnt be banned  I mean I can plan for them, but you never know  yeah, that's tricky business.  like if u have a 3 page story and u have a splash, thats lame. but if u got a 15 pg "epic" with 1, maybe 2, i think it's ok  well one page splashes are fine  but anyways, we are allowing for toning right?  in some cases that's all I would expect from some people  BUT 2 page splashes are impossible  yep toning is fine  I wish I had one of my shoujo phonebooks on me I'm pretty sure they're cool with greyscale  im not a big toner fan, but some people's style work with tones well. but that will up the price  i think we talked about this before . . .  toning won't up the price as it stays with in the b&w parameters  color ups the price  Well, sorry I couldn't be here sooner, but I'll be talking with y'all again soon enough by the sound of it.  alrighty  see ya later  cya  ciao  wait when dd brett leave?  I want to try to have these chat sessions every couple weeks  gotcha  his connection went wonky  though he's on aim  alright. should we update an announcement tonight. have we made any clear decisions. ive been in and out of here, so i dont know  apparently i dont use question marks  yep, I'll update the site with everything over the weekend  great. ok, well i dont have anything to show for it. but ill try and plug this at mocca this week  ok cool  well I think it's a good time to close the session for the night  well i guess im off then  I think we got a lot of stuff locked down  let me know when u guys have another chat  will do  it will be on the blog and on facebook
